It’s a Mistake to Underestimate Ourselves and Overestimate Others. This is why.
It’s time to start meeting people where they’re at.
Recently, I had a coaching call with someone from a local business.
She told me things are “pretty dead” for them right now. They aren’t getting much footfall, and their digital marketing strategies aren’t delivering results.
I asked what those strategies were and got a common response:
Posting on social media “whenever they have time”
Paying for expensive local promotion
Reaching out to high-ticket influencers
I sympathised. I was in that position myself at one time. I still go through periods where I struggle.
She asked if I had any suggestions for alternative approaches they could try (boy, did I!) and I was happy to share a few.
I love offering constructive guidance to fellow businesses, especially when I know my suggestions will work. I don’t have access to some magic formula, mind you — I’ve just been there before, and I’ve failed my way out of the hole.
But something struck me pretty quickly during that conversation: each time I made a suggestion, the employee of that local business (who was at least in part responsible for their digital marketing strategy) had to ask for an explanation.
