In the realm of solo entrepreneurship, where resources are often scarce and time is gold, the creation of content isn't just about broadcasting a message—it's about maximizing its impact across multiple platforms with minimal overhead.
This is where the concept of a marketing flywheel plays a pivotal role, especially for solopreneurs looking to enhance their digital presence efficiently.
Starting Point: The Newsletter
For me, all content begins with my newsletter, "The Full-Stack Marketer."
Here, I delve deep into marketing strategies and share insights without a paywall, offering value directly to my subscribers.
This foundational piece of content is not just a dissemination tool but a starting block for various content iterations that follow.
Organizing Content Flow: Utilizing Notion
To manage and streamline the distribution of my content across multiple platforms, I rely heavily on Notion. Here’s how I integrate it into my workflow:
● Content Calendar: Upon finalizing a newsletter, I create a new topic in Notion using a predefined template that outlines the various platforms and timelines for sharing the strategies discussed.
● Tracking: This template helps me keep track of where each piece of content needs to be posted and allows me to update the status as I publish across platforms like 𝕏, Medium, Substack, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube.
● Scheduling Short Videos: For each newsletter topic, I schedule 2-3 short videos to be released through the week on YouTube, Instagram, and 𝕏, aligning with the overarching content theme.
The Content Amplification Process
Once a newsletter is published, it sets off a series of strategic content repurposings across different media:
Posts on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter): I share insights and teasers from the newsletter on 𝕏. While posts on social media might seem ephemeral due to fast-moving feeds, they serve as essential touchpoints for audiences who prefer these platforms.
Articles on 𝕏: Despite lower engagement with long-form content on social platforms recently, I balance between threads and detailed articles, believing in the long-term traction they will gain.
Medium: A few days post-newsletter, the same content is shared on Medium behind a paywall. This step targets a different segment of my audience who value structured, detailed reads.
Substack Posts: Similar to Medium, but here, the content begins with a call to action for readers to subscribe to my newsletter, ensuring a loop back to the source.
LinkedIn and Instagram Stories: Later in the week, I share links to the Medium article on LinkedIn and through Instagram stories, broadening the reach and tapping into my professional and casual networks respectively.
Instagram Community Chat: This direct interaction with my followers fosters a community feeling and keeps the conversation going around the content.
By maintaining this consistent cycle of content repurposing, each piece of work garners more visibility and engagement.
The process doesn't just stop at sharing; it involves monitoring responses, engaging with comments, and tweaking future content based on audience feedback.
The Solopreneur's Edge: Efficiency and Consistency
The beauty of this flywheel approach lies in its efficiency. Once the primary content—the newsletter—is created, it's about smartly leveraging it across platforms without having to reinvent the wheel each time.
This method ensures that your message gets repeated exposure, crucial since it often takes multiple encounters with content before a viewer takes action.
Moreover, consistent content sharing across diverse platforms keeps the audience engaged and draws them back to the newsletter, reinforcing the value proposition and deepening their connection with the brand.
Closing Thoughts: Learning and Evolving
As solopreneurs, our journey is about constant learning and adapting. I invite you to share your content amplification strategies in the comments below.
Your insights could help illuminate new pathways not just for me, but for our community of driven, creative entrepreneurs striving to make every piece of content count.
So, how do you make the most out of your single piece of content?
Thanks for sharing some of your process, David. Interesting that you direct LinkedIn readers to the paywalled Medium article and not the free Substack content.
I have tried to do similar things you write about. But to be honest, nothing is working. Its like being one of those small fishes in a very big lake, together with 12324234 other fishes.
