It’s well worth the effort.

Hi there! 👋 My name’s David - I’m a writer and solopreneur from Northern Ireland. In this publication, you’ll find a growing archive of resources (created by myself and a collection of valued guests) for those hoping to become - or grow as - solopreneurs. While you’re here, you should also check out:

  • My other publication, How to Write for a Living

  • This course I created (included in my paid plan)

Thanks for stopping by! Now, back to the article.

Recently, my wife and I took a long overdue day off.

We hopped in the car and sped off to the North Coast of Northern Ireland.

If you’ve never been, I highly recommend you pay it a visit at some point. It’s beautiful.

Once there, we popped into a just-opened-for-the-day cafe and sipped coffee by the fire.

Then we pulled on our hiking boots and did an 8.5km loop around the Giant’s Causeway.

Cliffs near The Giant’s Causeway.

After lunch (ham and cheese toasted sandwiches and Malteaser buns), we ducked into a bookstore to get out of the rain.

And later, we ate our weight in burgers and pizza (we did a lot of eating that day, in hindsight!).

We spent the entire day away from home. Chatting, laughing, reminiscing.

We talked about work, but crucially, we didn’t do a shred of it.

It was glorious.

Priorities

Sometimes, you need to prioritise yourself over what you do for a living.

Christine and I are blessed to both be solopreneurs.

We control our own schedules. We can take days off whenever we like. We don’t have to ask someone if we can use the bathroom, or only go on holiday once a year during the peak summer season.

I cannot recommend that sort of work situation enough.

It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. I feel like I’ve said that before — I’ll undoubtedly repeat it plenty more times going forward.

To read the rest of this article (and unlock full access to my entire catalogue, along with some juicy extras) just upgrade to my paid plan - it costs about as much as one fancy coffee per month. Your support would make my day!
